Georgetown vs Lehigh @ Goodman Stadium – October 14, 2017

This was our first game that we were able to go to as credentialed scouts. We were able to go down onto the field during pregame and get a good look at some of the players warming up. During the game, we were able to sit in the press box. The main player we wanted to get a look at was Lehigh Wide Receiver Troy Pelletier. And he didn’t disappoint.

Pelletier finished the day with a school and conference-record 16 receptions for 197 yards and 4 TD. Georgetown’s defense couldn’t stop him or even slow him down.

As for the game, it was a shootout that was won by Lehigh. They scored first on Dom Bragalone’s 5-yard TD run. Georgetown got on the board a few times in the 2nd, but Lehigh held a 34-14 lead at the half. The teams’ pretty much traded scores in the second half on route to a 54-35 Lehigh victory.

Lehigh Quarterback Brad Mayes was on point finishing 31/40 for 384 yards, 4 TD and 1 Int. Bragalone ran 24 times for 122 yards and two scores and hauled in a catch for 22 yards. Casey Gatlin was another player we were excited to watch, but injured his ankle after making an 18-yard reception early in the game. For Georgetown, Gunther Johnson went 18/33 for 290 yards and 2 TD and ran the ball 13 times for 71 yards and 3 TD. He was clearly the bright spot for the Hoyas. Michael Dereus hauled in 3 passes for 98 yards and 2 TD. Safety David Akere was the lone Hoya we were focused on and he finished with 10 tackles on the day.

Fordham vs Lehigh @ Goodman Stadium – October 29, 2016

With Lehigh University just down the road and the team ranked, I figured it would be a good time to go catch a game. These offenses were two of the top ranked offenses in the country. This game was right on par with the rest of the season.

Lehigh got things started part-way through the 1st Quarter when Dominick Bragalone run it in from 19 yards out to give the Mountain Hawks a 7-0 lead. After a quick drive from Fordham, Lehigh got the ball back and only needed one play. Nick Shafnisky hit Derek Knott for an 84-yard TD. They failed on the 2-point conversion, making it a 13-0 game. Fordham finally got on the board when QB Kevin Anderson ran it in from three yards out to cap a 10-play, 91-yard drive. They missed the PAT to make the score 13-6. Lehigh hit a field goal late in the 1st to make it a 16-6 game heading into the 2nd Quarter.

After the Rams hit an early field goal, the Mountain Hawks went on a roll. Shafnisky had a 14-yard TD run and then Bragalone had TD runs of 3 and 70 yards to give Lehigh a 37-9 halftime lead. They added to their lead twice more in the 3rd . Brad Mayes hit Gatlin Casey from 29 yards out and Shafnisky ran for another TD, this time from 15 yards out, giving the Mountain Hawks a commanding 51-9 lead. Fordham’s Kendall Pearcey had an 18-yard TD run to cut the large lead to 51-16 heading into the final quarter.

Fordham tried to make a miraculous comeback, but they had just dug themselves into too big a hole. They put up three touchdowns to Lehigh’s one in the 4th, but the final score was still 58-37. Shafnisky finished 10/18 with 238 yards and 1 TD and 108 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns. Bragalone finished with 15 carries for 192 yards and 3 TD. Derek Knott had three catches for 130 yards and a score. Fordham’s Kevin Anderson went 21/33 with 285 yards and 3 TD. Chase Edmonds, one of FCS’s top running backs, added 24 rushes for 182 yards and fumbled once. Robbie Cantelli hauled in four passes for 66 yards and a TD.
